Americans are the best fed yet least healthy people on the planet

The most threatening chronic diseases that affect Americans today are diabetes, heart disease (including stroke and hypertension), kidney disease and cancer. Poor diet is a major contributor to all of these diseases and obesity is the most obvious evidence of our poor health. It causes 300,000 deaths per year and annual healthcare costs that exceed $100 billion.

    • 50% of adults are overweight
    • 33% are obese
    • 6% are morbidly obese
    • Even our children and pets are obese

African Americans are most at risk:

    • 77% of black women are overweight
    • 66.7% of black men are overweight
    • More than 36% have high blood pressure (the highest rate in the world) 
    • 40% have heart disease
    • 13% have diabetes
    • More than 45% have high cholesterol
    • 80% of black children have asthma
